Preachers Cave

Official Eleuthera Harbour Island brings you information on the Preacher’s Cave.

The Preacher’s cave is where the British started their settlement when they arrived in Eleuthera, Bahamas. “Eleuthera” comes from a Greek word “eleutheria” meaning freedom. The British settlers came here to flee religious persecution and start life anew.

Preachers Cave Beach

Preacher’s Cave in Eleuthera✨ The Cave is located in North Eleuthera and is an open cave system used by the Eleuthera Adventurers who found the cave in the 1600’s.
We definitely recommend visiting it. It’s also worth seeing the pink sand beach out front of Preachers Cave, it is a spectacular beach!

Pink Sand Beach Harbour

The long pink sand beach is definitely one of the main reasons why people come to Harbour Island. The beach of Harbour island has a length of 3 miles and is from 50 feet to 100 feet wide depending on the seasons and the time of the day. Tides do make a big impact on the size of the beach.

Hatchet Bay Cave

Just south of Surfers Beach is Hatchet Bay Cave. The cave is one mile long and filled with stalagmites and stalactites, which take on the appearance of underground cathedrals in torch light. Centuriesold graffiti of charcoal signatures line the walls. It is recommended to tour the cave with a guide.

Sapphire Blue Hole

The Sapphire Blue Hole in Eleuthera, Bahamas, is a stunning natural sinkhole filled with deep, crystal-clear blue water. Surrounded by limestone cliffs and lush vegetation, it offers breathtaking views and a peaceful atmosphere. Glass Window Bridge

One of nature's true wonders, The Glass Window Bridge will certainly leave you breathless as you drink in the magnificent panoramic view. It is one of the few places on earth where you can compare the rich blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean on one side of the road and the calm Bight of Eleuthera (often incorrectly called the Caribbean Sea) on the other side, separated by a strip of rock just 30 feet wide.

Queens Bath

The Queen’s Baths or the Hot Tubs, are located 0.6 miles south of the Glass-window Bridge on the rugged Atlantic side of the island. These natural pools (carved by centuries of waves pounding the rock) are filled with dramatic crashing waves, shells, and small sea life that wash over from the Atlantic Ocean. Once settled, this crystal clear water is warmed by the sun, creating a bath like temperature tidal pool that’s perfect for soaking. The best time to visit the hot tubs is during the low or medium tide. When visiting, it is best to wear water or tennis shoes.

Leon Levy Native Plant Preserve

Designed as a showcase for native plants and their importance to the people of The Bahamas, the Leon Levy Native Plant Preserve has the distinction of being Eleuthera's first national park. Walk with nature in this sanctuary for over 300 species of native plants, 70 species of birds, and 100 species of medicinal plants. It features gardens and wetlands designed by world-renowned landscape architect, Raymond Jungles, as well as trails through over 20 acres of natural areas. Developed by Shelby White in honour of her late husband, Leon Levy, the Preserve is operated by the Bahamas National Trust.

The Ocean Hole in Rock Sound, Eleuthera, is a fascinating inland blue hole connected to the ocean through underground tunnels. Encircled by limestone cliffs and home to tropical fish, it’s a popular swimming and snorkeling spot. Local legends claim it’s bottomless, adding mystery to its stunning turquoise waters and tranquil, scenic surroundings perfect for exploration.

Since the lighthouse beach is situated at the island’s tip, you can swim in two different waters, the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. A lighthouse beach is a beautiful place to visit!
